Handling and rider ergonomics are among the strongest points on this version. Yamaha has outfitted it with a premium KYB Speed-Sensitive inverted fork up front and a fully adjustable KYB rear shock, both tuned to provide control, composure, and feedback in demanding race or track settings. The work on geometry, narrow tank, flatter seat, slim bodywork, wide footpegs and excellent grip surfaces allow the rider to move, shift weight, and stay in control through whoops, jumps, berms, and tight chicanes. The lightweight rims and race-grade tires further enhance traction and responsiveness.
On the flip side, this model demands respect. Seat height is tall, weight is light compared to big four-strokes but still significant for sustained aggressive motocross, and the two-stroke engine needs precise throttle, clutch, and gear control to keep it in its sweet spot. Maintenance requirements, especially for the 2-stroke system (carburetion, reeds, exhaust condition, etc.), are higher than for simpler machines. Also, the premium components and styling add cost—not just in price, but in replacement parts and wear items. But for someone who wants top-tier 250cc twostroke performance with anniversary level styling, the YZ250 70th is about as compelling as they come.
